Our Name
The name Andrew is one
which lends itself to a marine theme. One of the twelve apostles,
Andrew had previously been engaged in a fishing business with
his brother Simon Peter. His eagerness to know and experience
love was the issue which brought him to a commitment to Jesus
Christ.
Since good news is for sharing, he
quickly became a fisherman for Christ. His brother Simon
was the first to respond. Through his personal encounter
with Christ and his willing discipleship, Andrew led many to a
new meaning and purpose in life.
Our Logo
The Lakeshore St. Andrew's logo combines elements of geography, history and mission to represent a focus for our ministry. Since the mid 1850's, our congregation has been located near Lake St. Clair in Lakeshore Township. Though originally named after the patron saint of Scotland, we have felt a close affinity with the disciple Andrew, a fisherman, whose personal encounter with Christ radically changed the direction of his life.
Most significantly, we believe we have been called to "encourage people to have hearts to follow hard after God." The cross rising above, around and below the boat represents the grounding, necessary in our lives. "If I ride the morning winds to the farthest oceans, Lord, even there Your hand will guide me, Your strength support me." (Psalm 139:9)
Our Prayer
"Lord, when trapped by Life's uncertain seas, help me to know that even wind and waves obey Christ. May others, through me, come to know the serenity He gives to life. Amen."
